ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED review


Zenbooks constant users will not feel unfamiliar with this new version launched. As they all are pretty similar, making their use simple, easier & similar to work. The launch of the Asus Zenbook 14X OLED review will elaborate on its qualities. The regular customers of Zenbook will keep practicing, as usual, continuing on every model in your use or on the market shelf. New buyers will enjoy synchronizing themselves in the shortest possible time.

Also they have launched Zenbook 14X OLED in early 2022. The unique induction of two traits is an excellent attempt. The first edition is its OLED display. This 90Hz OLED panel was the first ever developed for mass production. The second is its Touchpad. It’s a tiny touchscreen. You can enjoy the touchscreen like on other devices by bringing down the window.

Both additions have attraction, but it has some adverse effects too. Especially the jolt will eventually transfer on the battery.

Body Structure

Talking about the ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED body structure, the appearance is glorious & good-looking. Without any difficulty, you can open its glistering lid with one hand. The screen remains stable. Generally, Zenbook alerts about the presence of fingerprint magnets on the top. The plastic material built panel, which provides minimum flexibility on the screen and keyboard. Overall, it has a dark gray innovative finish with a thickness of 0.67 inches (16.9mm) and weighs under three pounds (1.4kg).  Lesser the weight, the more the comfort to carry along.

ASUS Zenbook 14X has a similar Ergolift hinge as all other ASUS models. Folding lid slides under the deck will jack up the keyboard minutely. Some lower bezels become invisible. Few degrees of the lifting of the deck furnish typing convenience. Air blowing for cooling the deck is frequent.


The connectivity setup is another attractive feature. Let’s check the number of ports available. It has a USB 3.2 Gen 2 type-A, one HDMI 2.0, one microSD reader, and an audio jack. The connection ports look similar outside, whereas the thunderbolt ports are not in this AMD version. Two out of three given Type-C ports are for DisplayPort the third one is for power adapters. In the absence of the power adapter, it has to be connected by a Type-C port. HDMI port is available.

SD card reader, The microSD reader performance is inferior in comparison with AV PRO microSD 128 GB V60 performance was much better in Dell XPS.

Zenbook Hardware

Zenbook is well-equipped with powerful hardware planted inside. The processor Core i7-1165G7, 16GM RAM, and a storage capacity 1-Terabytes. In addition to an Nvidia GeForce MX450 discrete GPU. The pre-launch prices shared by ASUS & Samsung tend to increase by the time of launching. We’ll keep you informed. 

The hardware detail is a bit confusing. Let’s review it deeply. MX450 is the primary level GPU which is less supportive of E-games. 16GB RAM is insufficient to meet the professional workload. However, it is supportive of regular use. The storage capacity of 1TB is a good space for storage. It becomes insufficient again for professionals and gamers. Professionals always need maximum storage space for their work records. Similarly, gamers’ soft inventory also requires bigger space.

The basic options for making it multimedia for people who like OLED screens with a high fresh rate provide smooth scrolling.

The Zenbook 14X OLED is suited to every budget to own at an affordable price. With a 90Hz OLD screen with a GPU. Although a few issues do exist but like others, this also has a few shortcomings. 

Principally, Zenbook potentially justifies its premium price because of its in-built touchpad. Asus proves itself as the manufacturer with a lot of courage to take risks in upbringing products with innovative ideas translated to actuality. It is pleasing to know that out of hundreds of thousand laptop manufacturers, Asus is risking to do better to do differently.


Zenbook was evaluated in the market with competitive products available at the self of every store. It has a WQXGA panel with a high resolution of 2,880 x 1,800 pixels. The screen size is 16:10, and with an excellent refresh rate of 90Hz as response time. The display exceeds any other brand.

It also affirms 100% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum and is understood by general people to do the appraisal. Brightness, 400 nits was reported by Asus. Whereas the test has measured it a little less as 366 nits averagely or a maximum of 372 cd/m². To know about the measuring unit, nits versus cd/m2 is almost equal to 1:1, so the advertisements have minute differences. In the case of an OLED, the brightness should typically be 97% accurate.

Continuous use of high brightness is indeed harmful. On an OLED display, the regular intervals are imminent for your safety. Asus has addressed this issue with an OLED screensaver that turns-on on every 15-minutes. The provision to disable it is applicable, which the user has to do after assessing the risk factor carefully. Asus will constantly alert you by warning notice. It is possible to deactivate from MyAsus settings. Software will force such users to create an account.

Asus Screen Design

They have designed the screen-to-body ratio by 92%. That’s a little ratio around a lot of colors displayed. For example, the Samsung panel uses a dimmer to reduce brightness more often. We expect, in future laptops by Asus will also be provided.

Briefly will talk about outstanding contrast (00:1) on display performance on OLEDs. Blacks are deep black, and the colors are lively. Above, we talked about how the response time was also admirable. The Asus OLED color handling is impressive.

The calibration of both DeltaE values of grayscale is 2.5 and color value is 2.9. Ideally, the undervalue from 3.0  is the best. While doing the calibration, it won’t improve further. 

The glare-type surface has adverse effects during outdoor use. The reflection deteriorates. If I try to increase the brightness, it will not work. The panel should move under shade.

No doubt, the viewing angles of OLED panels are the best available. Colors remain stable from flat angles, and the brightness doesn’t lose intensity.

Zenbook viewing angles are the outclass. Trust it, the best available. The stability of colors at flat angles won’t increase the brightness.


Keyboard design is a state-of-the-art design. It has anti-slip keys. Original pressure point, moderate finger movement, and firm stroke. All bring the typing softer and silent. Further, typing in a dark environment is an additional pleasure. It is well-supported by three stages of a white backlight. The design of arrow keys is relatively small. It needs extra careful and skillful work to continue flawless usage. Solid foundation keyboard at the entire surface.

The inner space between keys is considerably spacious. Approximately 2.5mm distance has consumed almost the whole laptop field. The spacious layout on the right side accommodates Up/Down and Home/End keys. Overall the design is perfect for practical use. The underneath base for keys is firm. Firmness is one of the best options to type confidently.

Professionals, however, are not in the habit of typing on spacious keyboards. It takes them extra time to adjust their finger flow reduces their typing speed. Zenbook keyboard with Numpad is empowering on the click pad.


The touchpad is sensitive to extreme edges with low movement, slow noise, quiet and unnoticeable. The inside space is smooth and the corners feel a little slippery. The fingers’ movement is soft, comfortable, and pleasing while working. TouchPad with numpad overlay


The in-built webcam is also less impressive. Webcam captures pictures with color images that are grainy or blurry from time to time. In tests, during the zoom meetings, the complaint was raised by the opponent about blurry pictures. It was re-tested at another session, but the complaint persisted. It is difficult to speak at zoom meetings or video conferences with a weaker appearance.


Zenbook speakers are under the palm rest on both rights & left sides. Sound reflection is on the surface. Speakers deliver a reasonable amount of low & basses. Further, it reproduces high volumes in a balanced manner. The dual-array microphone catches voices without noise. Features are ideal for video calls and conferences.

Speakers of well-known brands deliver sounds but for talking in zoom meetings or listening to speeches. Listening to music or Jazz isn’t supported appropriately.     


Let’s admit that Zenbook is very supportive of daily routine work. It carries a general workload easily. Zenbook, you’ll never notice the sound or vibration of the cooling fan running inside. Although, this soundless fan is continuously running and maintaining the Zenbook temperature up to permissibility. Whisper-free fan performance is superb. Furthermore, it is a battery saver.    


Zenbook has three accessories with each laptop. 1) Power adapter of 100 watts. II) SB Type-A Ethernet dongle. III) Digitizer pen and battery replaceable tips. Accessories illustrations are below for your reference. Small a 100-watt power adapter

An Ethernet dongle is included. The sleeve is high quality and has a magnetic closure.

Graphics Card

Vega-8 iGPU graphic card is implanted, making Zenbook powerful iGPU. The games run smoothly even at low-resolution settings. You can reach a higher speed maximum of up to 1,900 MHz for prolonged use. A few things to be considered, like the laptop, to be plugged in, with the performance profile active. Results will set a new benchmark corresponding to an average performance of Vega 8 iGPU recorded in the last few tests. 

The AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 graphics card is found in the Ryzen APU (iGPU).

Battery life

In general, laptops with a 14-inches screen size have battery running time up to 5.00 hrs to 5.30 hrs. These results have been tested over and over with multiple devices. The Intel version could run up to the same time of 5.00 hours to 5.30 hours. However, Zenbook battery performance has surprised all the competitors by lasting up to 8.00 hours. Excellent battery life for an OLED 14-inches screen-size laptop. You can say 20% to 30% extra running time. Superb.      

63 Wh; fixed but replaceable.

Zenbook is loaded with a high-resolution panel and a secondary screen with a high refresh rate for its regular operation. But the battery averagely lasts for five hours and 30 minutes while doing continuous office work. The Zenbook brightness was as low as 200 nits only. The battery working time is slightly better than Dell XPS 13 OLED. However, other devices loaded with similar high resolutions like the Apple M1 laptop or Huawei’s Matebook16 performs longer than Zenbook. Recharging is a must for Zenbook before the whole day ends. 

The test experience shows that the devices dispatched from the factory with pre-installed unnecessary software. That software is mostly for laptop safety & protection. This protective software developed by Macfee rigidly insists on scanning everything that is downloaded before it turns functional. It was a force to end all work underway. Restart the computer to uninstall. The painful exercise is supposed to be unnecessary.


Zenbook has installed the Ryzen 7 5800H processor, designed for larger laptops. But, Zenbook is implanted in its 14-inches screen size laptop. It’s supported by dual fans. These are considered a luxury for a 14-inch. Unusual for laptop SOCs that won’t offer dedicated graphics. The chip includes eight Zen 3 cores running at up to 4.4 GHz. The 5800H is the only chip option, excluding the Intel version. Even the 16 GB of RAM and the 512 GB SSD seem standard; there are no other options.


The ZenBook 14X OLED (UM5401QA-XXX) maintains the success of the AMD version developed by Intel. Test Results is a high-quality entry-level ZenBook for around 1,000 Euros, corresponding to USD1,022, which offers a substantially longer battery life. Its display is identical and has superb built quality.

Ryzen APU has a higher processing power for longer periods. Its processing power overtook the Intel counterpart behind. It comes along with higher volume under load. But the adjustment is possible by using the performance mechanisms offered by Asus.

Zenbook 14X AMD is a silent whisper while doing high activities. The performance reduces with traditional adjustment or lower.

Zenbook proud owners will get a perfect display in Zenbook 14X OLED. The screen display is well-supported by 45watts processing power. Further, its muscular and high-quality build case implies it is made for true professionals.
