Many laptops do not have high-quality loudspeakers. The speakers of most of the laptops are only usable for video calls, watching movies, or playing background music in a quiet and small space. However, the good news is that you can easily connect a complete audio system to your PC or laptop by using Bluetooth.

Bluetooth connection is far more convenient than using wires as wires restrict movement, whereas Bluetooth is totally wireless and stable. Note that, you have to turn on the Bluetooth of your speaker as well as your PC to make the connection. For this, you need to have a speaker that has Bluetooth specifications.

Bluetooth helps you connect various devices with your computers, such as phones, speakers, mice, and keyboards. Many devices, laptops, and tablets have an inbuilt Bluetooth, whereas, in others, you need to connect Bluetooth.

One of the common ways to do that is by plugging in a USB Bluetooth adapter inside the USB slot on your computer. Before you start, you have to check whether the version of Windows installed on your computer has Bluetooth or not. Then the installation process is also different for different versions of Windows.

Ways to Connect a Bluetooth Speaker To a Laptop?

Here we list the methods you can use to connect a Bluetooth speaker to your PC. Before you do anything, turn off the Bluetooth of your tablet or phone, if your speakers are already connected to them.

After that, you will be ready to pair the speaker(s) with your PC. Keep in mind that the method of turning on the Bluetooth of Bluetooth speakers could vary between devices. In that case, you will have to check the user’s manual of your speaker(s).

However, there are many speakers that do not have a distinct pairing button. You can simply turn on such speakers and they would be ready for connection to a laptop device.

Moreover, make sure to charge your speakers before connecting them to your PC. Note that, depending on the type of your speaker, you may have to press and hold its Pair button too. Certain speakers require a setup process too before they could be connected to a computer.

Check Whether Your PC Has Bluetooth

First, you have to be sure that your PC has Bluetooth. Click the Action Center icon. This icon is present to the right side of the clock of the system and appears like a white square having speech lines on it. You can find this icon at the bottom right of your screen. If it does not show in the list, click on Expand to view the complete list of icons. You will see no icon for Bluetooth if your PC does not support it.

Turn on Bluetooth on Your PC

To turn on Bluetooth on Windows 11 PC, click on the Start menu, select Settings. Then click on Bluetooth & devices, and choose to turn on Bluetooth.

The alternative and relatively quick method are to click on the Network icon that appears adjacent to the date and time on the taskbar, to the right. Select Bluetooth from the menu that appears. The Bluetooth may show as Not Connected even when it is turned on if no devices are connected to it. However, if you do not see the Bluetooth icon in the quick settings, you will have to add it manually.

If you have Windows 10 installed on your PC, click on Start, then Devices, Bluetooth & Other Devices, then choose Bluetooth to turn it on.

In a Windows 8.1 PC, you can turn the Bluetooth on by selecting Start, Bluetooth, and then clicking on Bluetooth settings. Turn on the Bluetooth button, then choose the device, click Pair.

To turn Bluetooth on in a Windows 7 PC, select Devices and Printers from the Start menu. Then click on Add a device, choose the device, and click Next.

1. Connect Bluetooth to Speakers on Your Windows 8 and Windows 10 PC

The process of connecting Bluetooth to external devices is almost the same in Windows 8 and 10 PCs.

  1. From the Start menu, click Settings, and then click System.
  2. Further, select Sound from the Bluetooth and Other Devices category.
  3. Turn the Bluetooth on and then to connect it to the speaker(s), click the + sign that appears adjacent to Add Bluetooth or another device.
  4. Then turn the Bluetooth column on, and choose the pairing mode.
  5. After selecting the pairing mode, the speakers would gradually appear, among the recognized devices.
  6. Click on your speaker’s name to synchronize it.
  7. Finally, you have to click Pair which is at the bottom-right side of the name card of the speaker in the window.

This would connect the computer to your speaker. Upon successful connection, the laptop will start to play the audio via the Bluetooth speaker.

2. Connect Bluetooth to Speakers on Your Windows 7 PC

Turn on the wireless mode of your speakers. Generally, to turn on this mode, you have to hold and press a specific key until the indicator light appears.

  1. Click on the Start menu, then click Devices and Printers.
  2. Select Add Device option that would appear in the upper left corner.
  3. The system would then start to search for nearby Bluetooth-activated devices.
  4. From that list of devices, select your speaker. This would connect the speaker to your laptop.

3. Connecting a Speaker to a MacBook

All MacBooks released after 2011 or later have an in-built Bluetooth. For all others, you will have to use a Bluetooth adapter. The process is very simple for connecting a speaker to your MacBook too.

  1. First, you have to turn on the Bluetooth of your speaker. Your speaker will either have a special button with a Bluetooth icon or a power button to turn on the Bluetooth speaker.
  2. After turning on the Bluetooth of your speaker, it would be discoverable by a nearby PC.
  3. Next to connect it with your PC’s Bluetooth, click on the Taskbar, and select System Preferences.
  4. Then select the Bluetooth settings panels and turn on the Bluetooth.
  5. Select your Speaker’s name from the list of nearby active devices to connect it to your PC’s Bluetooth.

Generally, the name of a speaker consists of its model number and brand.

4. How to Connect 2 Speakers to 1 Laptop Simultaneously

You can also wirelessly connect the stereo with your PC wirelessly. A stereo system has 2 audio devices. However, it is best if your speakers and PC are from the same manufacturer. This would easily sync the speakers with the laptop.

You can connect 2 speakers simultaneously with your laptop by following these steps:

  1. Turn on the speaker’s Bluetooth.
  2. Then activate the Bluetooth function from the settings of the laptop.
  3. Select the first speaker from the list to connect it to Bluetooth.
  4. Connect the second speaker by turning on the second column.
  5. Then click on your speaker’s name to connect.
  6. After that, repeat the procedure described above about connecting the first speaker to connect the second speaker the same way.

There also are other methods to connect stereo speakers to your laptop but they require special applications or use wires.

5. How to Connect Bluetooth Speakers to a Laptop Without In-Built Bluetooth?

In that case, you can use a Bluetooth adapter. A Bluetooth adapter is a device that you can plug into your PC via one of its USB ports. To activate the USB Bluetooth adapter,

  1. click on the start menu of your PC, then click on Control Panel.
  2. After that, click on Bluetooth, and finally, click on Add.

6. Connect the Bluetooth Speaker to Your PC Quickly in Future

The speaker’s name would be retained in the memory of your PC after you connect it once. So, after you connect the audio speaker(s) once to your PC, it would be easier to connect them again. For that, visit the Action Center on your PC and simply turn on the Bluetooth. Then click on the Connect tile and connect the speaker(s) from the list.
